What to Do If Baghouse Dust Collector for Foundry Fume Runs at High Temperature
Foundry production processes such as melting, pouring and shakeout generate a large amount of high-temperature flue gas. When the baghouse dust collector for foundry fume keeps running at excessive temperature, filter bags are easy to scorch, shrink or burn through, which directly leads to dust leakage, equipment failure and environmental non-compliance. Many foundry operators encounter this headache problem: how to effectively control flue gas temperature and protect filter bags safely. Zhengzhou Puhua Technology, a professional environmental protection equipment manufacturer, provides mature high-temperature flue gas control schemes for foundry dust removal systems, covering dust control equipment, desulfurization, denitrification and VOCs treatment equipment R&D and production.

Hazards of High Temperature for Foundry Baghouse Dust Collector
Excess flue gas temperature is the biggest killer of filter bags. Conventional polyester filter bags can only withstand about 130°C. Once the temperature exceeds the tolerance range, the filter fabric will soften, shrink, crack or burn out instantly. Broken bags cause a sharp rise of dust emission concentration. Long-term high temperature will also accelerate aging of the cage, sealing ring, solenoid valve and fan components, increasing equipment failure rate and maintenance cost. In severe cases, burning dust and high-temperature sparks carried by foundry flue gas may trigger fire inside the dust collector.
Common Causes of High Flue Gas Temperature in Foundry Dust Collector
First, abnormal working conditions of melting furnaces. Sudden feeding, oxygen-enriched smelting or furnace temperature out of control will make flue gas temperature surge instantly. Second, lack of cooling and temperature reduction devices on the pipeline. Third, hot sparks from pouring and shakeout enter the dust removal pipeline together with flue gas. Fourth, blocked ash hopper and poor ash discharge result in accumulated hot slag releasing heat continuously inside the cabinet. Fifth, temperature monitoring and interlock protection devices are missing or malfunctioning.
Practical Solutions for Foundry Dust Collector Overheating
1. Install flue gas cooling devices
Air dilution cooling is widely used in small and medium foundries. It introduces a proper amount of cold air into the pipeline to mix with high-temperature flue gas and lower the temperature to the allowable range of filter bags. It is simple and low-cost, but not suitable for flue gas with very high temperature. For high-temperature flue gas above 200°C, a surface cooler or evaporative cooling system is recommended. Zhengzhou Puhua Technology can design matched cooling modules according to actual furnace conditions and flue gas volume, to stabilize inlet temperature of the baghouse.
2. Add spark trap and pre-treatment equipment
Foundry flue gas carries a large number of glowing sparks, which not only raise local temperature but also ignite filter bags directly. Install spark arrestors, settling chambers or inertial separators at the front of the dust collector. They can intercept large hot slag and extinguish sparks before flue gas enters the bag chamber, greatly reducing fire and high-temperature impact risks.
3. Upgrade high-temperature resistant filter bags
If the flue gas temperature cannot be reduced for a long time, replace common polyester bags with high-temperature filter materials such as PPS, PTFE or fiberglass filter bags. Each material has its own temperature limit and acid and alkali resistance. You can consult the technical team of Zhengzhou Puhua Technology to select the most suitable filter bag material matching your foundry flue gas temperature and corrosive components.
4. Configure temperature monitoring and safety interlock system
Mount temperature sensors at the air inlet of the baghouse. Set alarm threshold and emergency interlock program. When the temperature exceeds the set value, the system will trigger an alarm automatically, open the cold air valve, or cut off the flue gas inlet and switch to bypass pipeline. The bypass duct is an essential safety measure for foundry high-temperature dust removal. When over-temperature accident happens, flue gas is discharged through the bypass temporarily to protect filter bags.
5. Standardize daily operation and ash removal management
Control melting furnace operation steadily to avoid sharp temperature spikes caused by irregular feeding. Keep ash hopper, star unloader and ash conveying equipment working normally, prevent hot ash accumulation. Check pipeline insulation and air leakage regularly. Cold air leakage at improper positions may cause condensation, while poor heat dissipation will keep the whole system hot.
Important Notes
Do not blindly increase cold air intake without calculation. Excessive cold air will expand flue gas volume, increase the load of fan and baghouse, and raise operation power consumption. Balance temperature reduction effect and system air volume. Regularly inspect temperature probes, bypass valves and spark traps to ensure the protection system responds reliably when abnormal high temperature occurs.
Summary
When the foundry fume baghouse dust collector faces high temperature problems, you should first find out whether it is continuous high temperature or instantaneous temperature spike. Combine spark interception, flue gas cooling, high-temperature filter bag matching and automatic temperature interlock protection. Zhengzhou Puhua Technology provides integrated foundry dust removal solutions including baghouse dust collectors, spark traps and cooling equipment, helping foundries control flue gas temperature effectively, protect filter bags, reduce downtime and realize stable and compliant dust emission.
